Well Woman Exam Q&A

What is a well-woman exam?

Well-woman exams at Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology, LLC, are comprehensive physical examinations specifically designed with women’s needs in mind.

Your OB/GYN specialist examines you from head to toe and detects or rules out health problems requiring treatment to prevent serious complications.

What happens during a well-woman exam?

During a well-woman exam at Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology, LLC, you can expect the following:

Vital signs check

When you arrive at your appointment, your OB/GYN check your weight, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs.

Medical history review

Your gynecologist asks about personal and family history of disease during the medical history review portion of your exam. They also ask questions about your menstrual cycle, symptoms, past surgeries, and medications you may take.

Physical examination

Your OB/GYN specialist at Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology, LLC completes a comprehensive physical exam during well-woman checkups. They evaluate your breathing, heartbeat, abdomen, throat, eyes, and ears. Your provider completes a breast exam and pelvic exam, which might include a Pap test to screen for signs of cervical cancer.

During a Pap test, they insert a speculum into your vagina and scrape some cells from your cervix, so a lab can analyze them. Your OB/GYN specialist also answers questions you may have about your health.

Diagnostic testing

If you’re at risk of or have signs of health or gynecological problems, your provider might recommend diagnostic testing procedures. Examples include bone scans, blood tests, urine tests, ultrasound, or other imaging procedures to rule out or detect health issues.

Will I require treatment?

If you’re in good health, you probably don’t require treatment, though your provider offers preventive medicine options such as vaccines and birth control. They might recommend taking certain medications, hormone replacement therapy, or additional diagnostic testing.

Minor surgical procedures can reduce heavy menstrual bleeding or pelvic pain, remove polyps, fibroids, or endometrial tissue, and provide permanent birth control if you're finished having children.

MonaLisa Touch® is a noninvasive procedure that uses laser energy to stimulate collagen production and revitalize vaginal tissues.

Schedule a well-woman exam each year, or more often, if your OB/GYN specialist recommends it. Book your next appointment with Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology, LLC, by phone or online today.
